Boa-Franc partners with Université Laval to create an Industrial Research Chair and R&D program unique in Canada

Saint-Georges, December 12, 2017 – Boa-Franc, manufacturer of Mirage hardwood flooring, is pleased to announce its industrial partnership with the students and faculty of Université Laval to develop innovative finishing and densification solutions for interior wood products.

The goal of the new program, launched as a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) research chair, is to increase the use of appearance wood products for indoor applications by developing finishing products and densification processes that improve the performance of these products or give them new attributes in keeping with sustainable development.

Boa-Franc president Pierre Thabet sees this partnership as significant. “Wood is an essential construction material that’s also biodegradable. Innovation and the environment have been key concerns for us from the beginning. That’s why we’re happy to actively participate in developing this program, which dovetails with what we do. In addition to being the only one of its kind in Canada, the research chair is in line with our corporate culture of innovation.”

According to Étienne Poulin, director of research and development at Boa-Franc, the benefits for the company are considerable: “This research and education chair will have a number of compelling benefits for Boa-Franc and the entire industry. It will lead to the development of innovative new products, generate valuable scientific knowledge, and train new researchers who will be able to lend their expertise to our teams.”

Funding for the Chair’s research program totals more than $4.2 million over five years, including financial contributions from the university and from various private and public partners.
